How Do I Get Rid Of These Red Bugs?

|

Clover mites are among the smallest pests that frequent our homes. They’re about the size of the head of a pin, which is only 1/30th of an inch in length. They’re reddish brown and have eight legs, making them a member of the arachnid family. They move slowly, but they can invade homes in large numbers. Outdoors, clover mites aren’t much of a problem. They tend to feed on plants and have a preference for clover, which is where they get their name from, but with all the space to spread out, they rarely have a noticeable impact on their surroundings. That being said, their tiny size makes it easy for these pests to get into our homes through tiny cracks, crevices, and openings we may not even know we have. Once inside, clover mites cause some problems including the staining of furniture and curtains, and even walls, ceilings, and floors when they are crushed, squeezed, or stepped on. The red bugs leave behind a red stain that is difficult to remove. They can also do some damage to household plants if given enough moisture and the ability to multiply.

As with almost every household nuisance pest, preventing them from coming indoors is recommended over trying to eliminate a clover mite infestation after they’re in your home. You can help keep the tiny bugs out of your home by reducing the amount of plants you have along your home’s foundation. Without a food source, clover mites are unlikely to wander from the yard to your home in the first place. If you’ve already got clover mites inside, get the vacuum cleaner out and suck them up to avoid squashing them and leaving stains all over the place. If you can't eliminate the infestation by yourself - or you just want to ensure you don’t get another infestation of clover mites or any other pest - give us a call to talk about our home pest control solutions.
